“I begged Miss Coffin (Yvonne Caffin-the costume director) when she interviewed me and later sent various questionnaires not to put the women aboard in the very beflowered, beplumed hats of the period as American women (and they were mostly American) would never wear street hats on board, and look what met our eyes at the Captains table!

Everything except the kitchen stove on their heads!”

Violet Jessop on acting as a consultan on the 1958 film ” A night to remember”

Her comment about “street hats” is somewhat mystifying to us,but I believe she is refering to hats worn specifically for walking and promenade.

Violet Jessop (October 2, 1887 – May 5, 1971) can be considered to have had the worst case of luck-or should we say- the best luck?

She did not only survive the infamous sinking of the Titanic, but strangely enough decided she hadnt had enough of ships so in 1916 she found herself working as a nurse on Titanic sistership the Britannic. Then it was hit by a mine and followed its sibling into a watery grave, but yet again Violet was was saved as by a miracle.

You can read all about her interesting story on the wiki.
